Germany is the third most sought after destination for Indian and Nepalese students who seek high-quality education, after US and Canada. Public universities in Germany offer courses with no tuition fees. In this article, we will discuss how you can navigate through the application and visa process, with a comprehensive guidance for you to understand how to apply for higher education in Germany and get a visa to reach there.

Why Study in Germany?

There is no tuition fee in public universities in Germany.

For private universities, it is better that you show fixed amount in a blocked account in Germany to prove that you can sustain yourself in the country during your period of study.

Flexibility of Course Selection

Some universities offer the option of changing your course. For instance, if you have studied engineering in India and Nepal and wish to apply for a higher ed course other than engineering like management or business, not all universities allow such a change in course, but it is possible.

Steps to apply to a German University

The process of applying to study in Germany is very straight forward. 

Collect your documents

          Academic records

          Valid Passport

          Curriculum Vitae

          Two Letters of Recommendation

          Motivation Letter

Submit the Application

Fill the application form for the selected course, and submit the documents online along with the
application to the university.

University Acceptance and Offer Letter

Once the university accepts your application and releases an offer letter to you on the basis of your application and documents, it is advised that you pay the tuition in full. This increases the chances of visa. In case your GPA, is lower than expected by the university, they may wish to interact with you online through a virtual meet. With everything in line, the university shall send the letter of acceptance to you. 

Steps to apply for a Student Visa

Once you receive the letter of acceptance from the university, you may begin the process to apply for
Visa at the nearest VFS center.

Prepare Financial Documents

          Non-Agricultural documents

          Bank Statements of 3 months

          Property Valuation (if any)

          Annual Income of more than 15,00,000

          Education Loan (if required)

          Relationship Certificate, if being sponsored by someone

Once you have the financial documents ready, you can open an account in Germany in student’s
name, and apply for visa appointment at VFS. You are all set to interview at the embassy. You are
advised to carry all the financial documents to the embassy. When the visa is accepted, which you would be notified at the embassy, please go ahead and transfer the fund to the German bank account.
